BIO

Born in Badalona, ​​he is a Doctor in Art History and Musicology from the UAB (Doctoral thesis Cum laude with Maricarmen Gómez Muntané), graduated in Biology from the University of Barcelona and in History and Music Sciences from the UAB, Master (with Honors) in Musicology and Musical Education from the UAB and Higher Degree in Composition and Arrangements in modern music from INCANOP.

He studied at the conservatories of Barcelona (Superior), Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet, studying piano with Ramon Porter. With Lluís Vergés he studied modern harmony, arrangements and composition.

He has attended courses given by Luis Vidal, Juan Albert Amargós, Michel Camilo, Chick Corea, Maria Schneider, etc.

His work is developed in the field of musical interpretation, composition, research and teaching.

 

As a pianist, he has worked with groups of all kinds of styles such as blues, Brazilian, African, gospel, jazz, theater, traditional, Mediterranean sounds, fados, etc., working with musicians such as Custom Blend, Vradiaki, Lo Poder del Canto, Txika & Marrabenta, Avenida Brasil, Camálicos, Jarabe de Caña, Névoa and many others, participating in almost twenty records.

He is the leader of the group SG4 with a repertoire based on his own compositions (www.santigalan.net).

As a researcher, his recent publications and communications at international conferences focus on the study of Spanish Renaissance music theory:

As a teacher, he has worked in private schools and at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, among other centers. He is currently a professor of Arrangements, Harmony, Musical Informatics, History of Music and Analysis at the Taller de Músics where, in addition, he is the Pedagogical Director of the Escuela Superior de Enseñanzas Musicales.
